Pictures you can use in speech therapy

Make your own photo cards or add photos to therapy software

household object photosBack when I started creating speech therapy software, it was incredibly hard to get good photos. I bought an expensive collection of a million photos. But they weren't searchable! I had to browse through a million photos to find "man throwing football".

Today, you can just search for "man throwing ball" and get some great photos. And if you're just using them at home, that's Fair Use and you can use them free. (This is not legal advice. I am not a lawyer.)  I often recommend this for folks using our speech therapy programs Sights'n Sounds 1 and Sights'n Sounds 2.

Where to find free pictures for speech therapy

  1. Images.Google.com  - using Google to search for just images- comprehensive but not always the best photos

  2. www.pexels.com

  3. pixabay.com

  4. depositphotos.com  is the most economical paid photo source. It's what I use for our speech therapy software.  Very affordable.

Pictures from the Newspaper

You don't have to browse online to get some great photos for therapy. Newspaper ads are great. Practical objects (apples, steak, carrots, etc.)
Here's what one speech therapist does:

grocery ad photos for speech therapyI like grocery ads, sales ads from newspapers. I have taken some of my own that are functional and printed off for aphasia or communication boards and practice.
